Planet of the Apes Review
xnrgx Review:
Some people need to lighten up a bit. I remember seeing the original movie when it first came out at the movies, and every one after that, they were great for their time. I loved them. But, hey, don't compare this to the original, this is a different time. The graphics for this move are great, costumes very well done. Plot was ok, like the book. Over all well done, I thought.
For a Si-Fi remake that was smart enough not to follow the original exactly (Who wants to watch the same movie twice?) this was done very well, I think. It was better then alot of remakes I think. It could have had better actors, agree. But it was nicely done. Followed the book more, but I don't expect a move to follow the book, why watch an exact take of what I already read; or watch a remake done exactly like the original, why watch the same thing twice?
If you just watch this as a stand alone movie, I think its good, would have been nice to have done all the Planet of the Ape movies, and see how this would have evolved.
DarkReign Review:
Full of plot holes, such as:
1.) How did the chimpanzees evolve into such vastly different species in only a few thousand years? The t 2.) How did the apes know what evolution was?
3.) How did anyone ever hear about Semos, presumably the ability to write information down, and read, would have come long after anyone who even knew semos was still around?
4.) How could a bunch of ordinary chimps overpower a space station crew with weapons?
5.) How the **** did everyone speak the same language, between multiple species and eras?
6.) The space station is WAY too advanced for the year to be 2029. It even has its own anti-gravity, which is impossible! As the friggin station wasn't even spinning, or anything. I doubt we'll make quantum leaps in physics in just 20 years.
7.) Where the **** did the horses come from? They said the planet was uninhabited. And the space ship that crash landed only had chimps and humans on board.
Those are only a few of the many HUGE plot holes.
Now for other complaints. The CGI was horrible, the story made no sense (how could the apes honestly think the humans weren't capable of much anything, and were stupid, yet they could speak the same language as them, and could wear clothing they themselves made!?), and the whole thing looked and felt like it was done on a stage.
It felt more like a broadway production, with campy backrounds, cheesy costumes, and bogus scenery. None of it felt authentic, I was very aware, just by looking, that this was a movie, and most likely none of it was filmed anywhere outside of a studio. It was a depressingly poor movie, with an absurdly poor story, and full of illogic. The only explanation for many of the glaring plot holes is either sheer laziness or total lack of care for a competent story line that is consistent, and sensible.
This movie is science fiction, yes, but the movie is ILLOGICAL to the core. Sci-fi is supposed to explore what is POSSIBLE, or at least offer an explanation of some kind as to why the seemingly impossible is occurring. This movie sickens me, it is that bad. I've wasted precious moments of my life, in viewing this sham of a movie. Tim Burton should be ashamed.
